DECK REFINISHING

In terms of what it will take to refinish it to its original glory, each deck is unique.

Wash & Stain

We will apply a deck cleaning solution to your deck, and clean it with low pressure to ensure we don’t damage the wood fibers. After the wood is thoroughly dry, we will apply an oil penetrating stain.

Sand & Stain

If you have an older deck, you might have noticed that your wood has started to crack and splinter. A great solution to this problem is to power sand the boards to bring them back to a new, smooth surface, and then apply an oil penetrating stain. We typically sand horizontal boards (primarily floor boards & top rails).

REPAIRS

Sometimes there is a need to replace a damaged board or broken spindles, or tighten up hand rails prior to refinishing. We are happy to take care of these repairs for you!

REPLACEMENT

Some decks are so far gone that replacement can be more cost-effective than refinishing. This also allows for the potential to upgrade your deck to a more modern look and finish if desired. Your options are maintenance-free composite, cedar, green-treated or other exotic wood decking. You can also add maintenance-free aluminum railings.

We’ll access your current deck and put together a plan that works for you both aesthetically as well as for your budget.

OIL PENETRATING STAIN

We only use oil penetrating stains. Most homeowners who try to refinish their own decks use water based stains, for ease of application and handling. Because water based stains do not penetrate the wood surface, but rather sit on top of the wood, over time, they will eventually flake and peel off. In order to repair this inevitable result, we must completely remove the failing coating to reveal a surface that will allow our oil penetrating stain to to its job. Because the product we use penetrates deep into the wood surface, it is impossible for it to flake or peel off. When it is time for a new coat of stain, power washing the deck and then brushing a new coat of stain is all that’s needed - no stripping or coating removal required.

RAILINGS

The style and quantity of railings on a deck are a major factor in the overall price of the deck refinishing. One option that our customers love is to remove existing wooden railings and replace them with updated aluminum railings, which require no further maintenance down the road. These railings make a visually appealing addition to your existing deck and are a proactive approach to minimizing future deck maintenance, so you can actually enjoy your deck instead of trying to find the time to wash and stain your 200+ spindles.
